A Dutch national who intended to travel with two packages of cocaine hidden in his luggage was arrested by agents of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and members of the Specialised Airport Security Corps (CESAC) during inspection work coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, at the Las Americas International Airport, JFPG.
The Dutchman was arrested in the boarding area of the terminal. After searching his luggage through one of the X-ray machines, suspicious images were observed inside, immediately initiating the protocol of action for these cases.
On the instructions of the prosecutor and in the presence of the accused, the suitcase was opened, finding inside several articles of clothing and two packages of cocaine in the form of sheets weighing 2.16 kilograms of cocaine (two kilos and 16 grams).
The 20-year-old foreigner is being handed over to the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction of the province of Santo Domingo to know coercive measures in the next few hours.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD are investigating the frustrated drug trafficking operation to determine if there are others involved in this case.
Authorities continue to expand their operational intelligence capabilities, managing to catch dozens of people used as drug mules to bring narcotic substances to the United States, Europe and Canada.
