The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in a bank robbery investigation.
Between Friday, December 20, 2024, and Monday, December 30, 2024, police responded to five calls in the Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard, Eglinton Avenue East and Laird Drive, Eglinton Avenue West and Renforth Drive, and Royal York Road and Lawrence Avenue West areas.
It is alleged that in each incident, a lone male suspect entered a bank. He produced a knife and made a demand for cash, took a quantity of cash before fleeing the bank
Members of the Hold Up Squad commenced an investigation and were able to determine the identity of the suspect.
On Thursday, January 2, 2025, the Hold Up Squad members located the suspect in Queensway and North Queen Street and took him into custody.
Jeffrey Laviolette, 36, of NFA, was charged with five counts of robbery with an offensive weapon.
He was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in room 107.
