In a high-stakes operation along the coast of La Altagracia, Dominican authorities seized 620 packages of cocaine weighing 633.77 kilograms, the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) confirmed recently.
The bust, conducted in collaboration with the Navy and Air Force, thwarted what appeared to be a major drug trafficking attempt.
The operation unfolded as air, naval, and land teams intercepted a motorboat near Playa Palmilla in Bayahibe. The crew abandoned the vessel and fled into the dense forests of Cotubanamá National Park.
Inside the boat, authorities discovered 22 bales containing the cocaine packages, along with other incriminating evidence.
Investigations are intensifying as the DNCD and Public Prosecutor’s Office pursue several suspects linked to the failed landing.
This latest seizure underscores the Dominican Republic’s ongoing battle against international drug trafficking networks operating along its coasts.
