Knifeman Nazim Uddin Jailed Five Years for Inflicting Life-threatening Wounds on Victim

A man who attacked another man with a knife, causing life-threatening injuries, has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Nazim Uddin was outside the Co-op on Church Lane, Bedford,d just after 4:00 p.m. on 9 August last year when he tried to start a conversation with the victim.

After a heated argument developed, another suspect punched the victim before Uddin produced a large knife, stabbing the victim in the back. He then fled the scene in a taxi.

The victim was able to run away from his attackers and managed to alert members of the public, receiving immediate first aid.

He was then taken to the hospital to be treated for wounds that were deemed to be life-threatening, though he has since made a recovery.

Following an investigation by Bedfordshire Police’s CID team, Uddin, 18, of no fixed address, was convicted of grievous bodily harm and carrying a bladed article.

He was sentenced to five years in custody at Luton Crown Court.

Detective Constable Chloe Vickery from Bedfordshire Police CID said, “This was a violent attack which could have ended the victim’s life. Uddin’s actions were unprovoked and without any regard for the incident occurring in a public place outside a busy shop in the late afternoon.

“The victim in this case has been incredibly brave in coming forward. We thank him for having the courage in doing so. The result and sentence Uddin has received should be a deterrent for others.

“We will continue to do everything we can to put violent criminals like this in prison.”
