Houston: FBI Seeks ‘Scrooge Sprayers’ for Armoured Car Robbery, Offers $5,000 Reward

FBI Houston’s Violent Crime Task Force and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating three men, dubbed the ‘Scrooge Sprayers’, who robbed an armoured car courier on Friday in east Harris County.

Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the robbers.

The robbery occurred at approximately 2:14 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Food Town store located at 5 Uvalde Road in east Harris County. During the robbery, the suspects followed an armoured car into the store parking lot and waited for a courier to exit the truck and enter the store.

Once the courier entered the store, one of the suspects rushed the courier and attempted to grab his bag, which contained an undisclosed amount of money. When the courier resisted, a second suspect sprayed the courier with an unknown substance, which temporarily blinded him.

The second suspect then struck the courier, causing him to fall to the floor and lose control of the bag. The suspects grabbed the courier’s bag, ran to a waiting white Hyundai Elantra driven by a third suspect, and drove away southbound on Uvalde Road.

The armoured car courier suffered temporary blindness due to the unknown spray, but no one else was physically hurt during the robbery.

The two robbers who entered the store are described as Black men, approximately 18-22 years old, with thin builds.

During the robbery, one suspect wore a black hooded sweater, and the other suspect wore a white hooded sweater and ripped jeans. There is no description of the third suspect who drove the getaway vehicle.

Crime Stoppers of Houston, a non-governmental organisation, is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of these robbers. If you have any information, please call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or the FBI Houston Field Office at (713) 693-5000.

Tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers through their website, www.crime-stoppers.org, or the Houston Crime Stoppers mobile phone app, which can be downloaded for both iPhone and Android devices. All tipsters remain anonymous.
