In a joint operation, members of the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD) and agents from the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD), coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, seized 13 packages presumed to be cocaine in the province of Montecristi.
During a maritime and land patrol, the Navy and DNCD troops spotted a boat in a dry dock near the Nautical Club with two men on board, a sack, and several fuel bottles.
Upon inspecting the sack, authorities found 13 packages of a substance believed to be cocaine, wrapped in adhesive tape and bearing different logos.
The authorities have maintained operational teams in the area to search for and track evidence related to the thwarted drug trafficking operation.
Two Dominican nationals were arrested and handed over to the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction of Montecristi to face coercive measures within hours for violating Law 50-88.
The detainees’ belongings, including a 25-foot boat, a thermos containing three cell phones, a Garmin GPS, and other evidence, were seized.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD are investigating to determine if others are involved. Meanwhile, the 13 packages of the substance have been sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for further analysis.
